Updated in April 2026. If you are planning to travel to the United States — whether for the 2026 World Cup, Disney, or business — the B1/B2 visa is mandatory for Brazilians. In this guide, you will find updated costs, wait times, documentation, and tips for the interview.

Brazilians need a B1/B2 visa to enter the USA — there is no exemption or ESTA

Can Brazilians use ESTA?

NO. Brazil is not part of the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, so ESTA does not apply. All Brazilians traveling to the United States for tourism or business need a traditional B1/B2 visa, issued by a U.S. consulate.

How much does the American visa cost in 2026?

With the new integrity fee introduced in 2025, the total cost has increased. As of April 2026, the amounts are:

Item Amount
MRV Fee (Machine Readable Visa) US$ 185
Integrity Fee (new, 2025) US$ 250
I-94 Form US$ 24
Approximate total US$ 459 (~R$ 2,295)

The integrity fee has refund possibility in some specific cases — consult the consulate.

How long is the wait time?

With the 2026 World Cup in the USA (along with Mexico and Canada), demand has significantly increased. Average wait times in April 2026:

  • São Paulo: 15-45 days to schedule an interview
  • Rio de Janeiro: 20-60 days
  • Brasília: 15-30 days (less congested)
  • Byto Alegre, Recife: 30-60 days

Tip: if you are in a hurry, consider traveling to Brasília or even applying at international consulates (Argentina, Mexico) — but confirm the policy with the consulate first.

How to schedule

  1. Visit the official website br.usembassy.gov
  2. Create an account in the scheduling system
  3. Pay the MRV fee (US$ 185)
  4. Complete the DS-160 form online
  5. Schedule the CASV (Service Center — fingerprinting and photo)
  6. Schedule the interview at the consulate
  7. Wait for the decision (5-10 business days after the interview)

Required documents

  • Passport with a minimum validity of 6 months
  • Recent 5×5 cm photo (white background)
  • Confirmation of DS-160 appointment
  • Proof of payment of the MRV fee
  • Connections in Brazil: work card, pay stub, bank statement, school/university enrollment
  • Finances: bank statements for the last 3 months, Income Tax
  • Property: deed or rental agreement
  • Itinerary (if desired): hotel reservations, tickets

Interview tips

  • Be objective: short, direct answers. The consul has less than 3 minutes per person.
  • Show connections in Brazil: family, work, studies, property. This demonstrates that you will return.
  • Do not lie: never, about anything. Any false information = automatic rejection.
  • Speak English if you know it: it is not mandatory, but it helps.
  • Dress well: discreet clothing, no hats or sunglasses.
  • Arrive on time: delays > 15 min = rescheduling.

Visa validity

The B1/B2 visa for Brazilians is usually valid for 10 years. Each entry allows a stay of up to 6 months, at the discretion of the immigration officer. There is no need to renew before expiration if it is still valid.

Renewal

If your visa expired less than 48 months ago, you can apply for renewal without an interview (mail-in process). It costs the same fee, but saves you from the wait.

What if the visa is denied?

If denied, you will receive a letter explaining the reason (usually: lack of ties to Brazil). You can reapply later — but you need to pay the fee again and show a different situation.

Arriving in the USA: internet and travel

With your visa approved and your trip booked, don’t forget about internet at your destination. Roaming from Brazilian carriers costs R$ 50-100/day in the USA. An eSIM for the United States costs $13 for 10 days. See eSIM USA plans.
